Death of a Flibbertigibbet----------------------Mystery------------------------365 pages
Why does anyone kill? Is there a voice that softly gives the command—a voice that cannot be resisted?
Detective Millard Whitney has a murder to solve. The victim is Sally Zeemer. Millard finds no shortage of people who wanted this woman dead. Sally’s tell-all newspaper column uncovered many secrets that people wished to keep buried. One of them could have seen to it that Sally herself is now buried.
Sally’s husband, Orlando, enlists Millard to find the person who has taken away his “entire world.” Orlando is the CEO of Revco, a major drug company, and Millard quickly finds that the job has more importance than the wife. If Sally is Orlando’s entire world, then the aging entrepreneur also has an alternate universe.
Talking with people at Revco, Millard finds that Sally has been trying to uncover a few secrets there that could bring down the company. Certain key employees have good reason to protect their territory. Adding to the mix is Sally’s proclivity of having sex with nearly everyone she comes in contact with.
During the investigation, Millard’s life is compounded by his new girlfriend’s desire for adventure. For Nicole, risk is the only answer, and she pushes Millard to the edge, literally. Millard isn’t sure whether the killer is going to get him, or will he die during one of Nicole’s “outings”?
Who strangled Sally Zeemer? Millard finds many people willing to share with him their dislike of Sally, even some of her relatives, but he can’t come up with final evidence to link anyone to the crime. Because of two attempts on his life, Millard is sure he’s getting closer to the answer, but he knows he has to succeed before the killer whispers murder into his ear.
As a former Philly cop, Millard has never had to kill anyone. Millard begins to wonder if in a confrontation with the murderer, he can actually become a killer himself. In the end, it all comes down to a “secret place” Millard visits.

This was the first book that I read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. It was both funny and full of suspense. The protagonist was a real wiseguy whose antics really kept the plot going. In the end, there was a surprisingly good 'wrap up' to the whodunit. I gave it four stars because despite the good plot, some aspects of the storyline were a bit too abrupt.Product details
